Born Nov 4th 1942 in Toa baja, P.R. Mario Serrano came to Williamsburg Brooklyn in 1945. He started his first business in high fashion men's wear in 1965 @ age 22.Mario was the first Hispanic in the industry to own a chain of fine stores that reached 7 units by 1973 in the 4 boroughs. He was also the premier Latin celebrity stylist In 1973. Mario opened another location in Brooklyn, this new venture included a two floor salsa late night private club above his first level men's retail store. It also served as the most successful ticket outlet for Latin events at the time. He was very involved in the community, sponsoring several little leagues between 1968-1974 including 8 of his own leagues. In 1980 Mario moved his family to Tampa, FL and continued in the retail business. He opened Mario's of New York in 1980. This was an exclusive high fashion women's wear shop. The store was located in Tampa Bay Center, Tampa's premier mall at the time. He sold the store in 1987 in order to relocate to a premier suburban area in Tampa. This new venue was extremely well received by the affluent women in town. Mario hosted several fashion shows in Tampa in different venues, including The Performing Arts Center.During this time Mario also focused on his other business which has been, Latin promoting. He hosted dances, events, and concerts including Latin superstars Lola & Lolita Flores and Rocio Jurado.In 1994 Mario started another venture. This included designing a women's line of swimwear with his signature flare of rhinestones and camouflage. The line debuted at the gala grand opening of a camouflage clothing company located in Granada, Nicaragua.Mario is currently involved in his latest entrepreneurial venture including marketing, promotion, and production.
